Introduction
Before
you know it,
you'll stumble across something that makes you feel very old. While
recently reading through a pile of old comics I'd saved from my teenage
years, I was alarmed to discover that I am now older than Johnny
Alpha was on the day he died. That can't be so, I thought. These
comics are only a few years old. Checking the cover, it dawned on me
that they dated from around 1990. That's 15 years before I put this
site together! It can't really be that long ago, can it? That's not
possible!
Then,
I started noticing the advertisements. Much of the joy in revisiting
old comics and magazines is discovering long forgotten advertisements
for (sometimes) long forgotten products. Around the time of Johnny Alpha's
demise, 2000AD were running
advertisements for various home computer systems, consoles and video
games. If five years is a lifetime in computing, it stands to reason
that 15 years is three generations. Looking back at the technology of
1990 equates to a family historian researching the childhood of their
grandparents.
I
have put this site together as a historical resource. I do not intend
to restrict the content to the technology of 1990, nor do I intend to
focus purely on computer games. However, that is how I shall begin.
I hope you enjoy looking at the articles and advertisements from the
past. Maybe some will elicit fond memories, or maybe younger readers
will find it educational. I have added my comments and would be happy
to include your comments if you care to take the time to share them
with me. Please read the "About" page for more information
regarding submissions.
It
all seemed so cutting-edge at the time.
Dave.
