About
this site.
This
site was created, not to wallow in nostalgia, nor to poke fun at the
past, rather as a celebration of what we have today. You may be reading
this page in between recording a Podcast and updating your blog. Or
maybe you've been ripping CDs or sharing files over a P2P network. Whatever
you've been up to with your computer, chances are you would have had
absolutely no inkling, 15 years ago, that anything like that would be
possible.
Things
move ridiculously fast in the world of technology and things creep up
on you and, before you know it, you're taking the world wide web for
granted. It is with this in mind that I am attempting to collect and
display articles and advertisements from the recent past that illustrate,
in some way, how fast our world is changing.
It's
easy to laugh at the naivety of some of the adverts but that would be
unfair. Everything was so new and shiny back then (whenever that was,)
and it was not clear where we were headed. It's interesting to see the
evolution and increase in sophistication over the years. I'm not saying
that you shouldn't have a chuckle every now and again; I'm sure the
Sega Game Gear advertisement, for example,
was just as funny to its intended readers back in 1992.
Comments
and Submissions
This
is still very much the beginning of the project and all comments and
submissions are gratefully received. Please be sure to email
me with your intentions before sending any attachments othewise, your
mail will be deleted without being opened. The sort of things I'm looking
for are print advertisements, articles and reviews of anything related
to computing, gaming, mobile phones, portable music players and so on.
As I said, I've only just started this collection so be sure to come
back for my updates.
Dave.
